SIDE SHAPES – sides that widen or flare above the waterline tend to have a better final stability and improved seaworthiness. ‘Tumblehome' sides widen above the water-line, then tuck back in towards the gunwales. They give a paddler better access to the water, but decrease the boat's final stability when heeled dramatically.
