rocker

ROCKER – the curvature of the boat from end to end. The more rocker (curve) the canoe has, the more maneuverable it will be. If the canoe has little or no rocker it is said to have a ‘straight keel line' and it will have good tracking and decreased maneuverability.

Overall Length
measurement from the stern tip to the bow tip. The larger a boat, the greater its load capacity.
Waterline Length
the length of a canoe at the four inch waterline. By increasing the waterline length the planing surface is increased, making the canoe more efficient.
Beam
the width at centre from gunwale to gunwale. Canoes with wide beam have increased volume, seaworthiness and final stability.
Waterline Width
– the boat's width at the four inch waterline. A narrow ‘water-line width' increases efficiency. A wide waterline width increases ‘initial stability'.
